The little birds have started chirping in
the hot summer morning. The small birds are lively. There is a rhythm in
their sound. Why are you leaving us without saying “Good Morning”? Was it
what they thought while I moved them behind? A small flock of birds are
indeed a very pleasant sight in this desert.
Roads are busy with moving cars and buses.
Three summers have fallen behind the history since I came
in Qatar. Compared to Gods Own Country, lush green all around; greenery here
is meager. No meaning to dream more in desert. However, we have some
greenery near our accommodation camp. Since the bush appeared in
surroundings, sparrows have resorted here. Their chirpings enliven our
monotonous external conditions.
There
has been a strenuous effort to plant some flowering shrubs around here.
There is a dedicated man hours behind every single vegetation in the desert
conditions, here. Qatar spends huge funds
to maintain artificial plants in some pavement and other centers of
attraction.
Greenery is rare; no one can imagine a homely mood here.
Birds, pets (rare sights) and even a small flower present immense pleasure
to my eyes. All the sights in Doha and along the surroundings also, exhibit
similar green and colorful stretches. This is the way Qatar try conservation
and underscores the need to protect the environment.
Some times I notice few pigeons in small group in this
hot sun just near the construction site. The workers during rest time on
site care these birds stand affable. Some times they feed them. The birds
give them a feel of relaxation during their tiresome works.
The small gulf state which is rich in its natural gas
resources has changed lot. Doha, the capital city is changing. Old buildings
have become part of history. Demolition of old construction is still going
on. All the re-construction and modification works are in progress. Road
transport and many infrastructure developments have enhanced since Qatar
hosted Asian Games in 2006. The skyscrapers of Doha witness the change in
short span of time. As many as new projects have begun in Ras Laffan
Industrial City. Many projects have completed successfully.
While Qatar is marching towards an impressive economic
boom, still many factors pull it back. Road traffic has become a nightmare
to travelers across Doha. Regular travelers, tourists as well as employees
face the difficulties. “To find out a parking lot in Doha on Fridays is very
difficult”, says drivers.
Qatar is not moving through industrial development alone.
It’s cultural and intellectual circles have also developed immensely. Doha
debates and Qatar Foundation’s initiatives to creative and innovative
campaigns lead the nation to new heights of development. Qatar Islamic
Museum at Doha Corniche is a precious monument for the whole world. The
Doha Tribecca Film Festival concluded in Doha recently focused the region’s
outlook in film making. HH Highness Sheika Mozah’s initiatives to women’s
empowerment and active participation in social stream give exciting chances
to Qatari women.
Being one of the biggest LNG exporting nations, Qatar
gives a vast horizon of opportunity for thousands of expatriates. Nationals
as well as expatriates join hands in workplaces to reach the goal. Recent
direction by government, Qataris are preferred for job hiring in banking,
telecommunication and health care sectors. Students are encouraged to serve
their mother country than going outside.
Doha is transforming into an International media hub
since Al-Jaseera and other media moguls headquartered here. When foot ball
and sport excites Qatar, the natives celebrate each event.
Qatar Foundations current World Innovative Summit on Education (WISE) also
turned to be a creative event with the participation of 120 countries. WISE
addressed the global challenges in education. American universities in Qatar
have become a spotlight for new opportunity for advanced learning. Community
classes being organized by foreign universities have attracted many
learners. Innovative educational methods attract locals and expatriate
community as well.
