Artist Johns Mathews has no doubt lies are present everywhere. His recent exhibition named, ‘Expression of Lies’ at Media Centre in Kozhikode showcased the contemporary lives.
As an artist he had visited Plachimada earlier to capture the true picture of the situation there. He said that as an artist it helped him to be honest to express his thoughts in its true manner.
According to the painter, the picture on Plachimada titled ‘Door to Plachimada’ signifies water scarcity along with male chauvinism that exists in the society. In this canvas, a symbolic door is created and the very entrance opens to darkness. Both sides of the doors are juxtaposed as on one side it depicts the pathetic condition of rural women folk in Indian villages who have to bear the grunts of water scarcity. The other half of the door is carved with an inner meaning; which on first look appears like a tap, but the hidden meaning is male chauvinism.
‘Oru Puzhayude Prarthana’, a painting correlated with mythology is a sharp criticism of modern life style to environment pollution. In the mythology, the River asks the King ‘Where should I clean all these dirts?’ Similarly, we should be responsible to answer Nature’s question for polluting Mother Earth.
