A melodious poetry of love romance and pain, that is what Chenganpuzha Krishnapilla is to malayaly hearts. His works were mirrors of his life and feelings, they flow from the deepest part of his soul, spreading harmony, romance and inspiration to whoever hears or reads it.
He never tried to preach or advocate the complexities or dimensions of life. No wonder Krishnapilla’s poetry has been inspiring the hearts and souls from mid-twentieth century irrespective of cast, religion, sex or financial background.
Krishnapilla was born at Edapalli of Ernakulam district to ‘Thekadath Narayanan menon’ and ‘Chegampuhavittil Parukuttiamma’ on 10th October 1911. Being born in a poor family young Krishnapilla had to face great adversities to complete his formal education. He passed his Intermediate in 1938 from Eranakulam maharajas college. He also studied law at madras in the year 1944.
Young Krishnapilla was bedridden when he was working as a coir employee due to the bad habits he had picked up by then. Lying down ailing for long four years he read wide range of books from various languages such as Russian, German, French etc. These literary voyage from his bed would become his base later.
‘RAMANAN’, the master piece was born out of intense pain, sorrow & depression the poet had to face due to suicide of his beloved friend and poet Raghavan Pilla on 7 July 1936. This single work took Krish as ‘Bashpangalli’ ‘kavyanarthaki’ ‘Udyanalakshmi’ etc.
Chenganpuha krishpilla believed in romance. Wrote romance and also lived a life of romantic imaginations. The great poet died on 17th June 1948 due to acute tuberculosis depriving the Malayalam.
