At Calicut beach, around fifty kids participated in the kite-flying show, jointly organized by Kite Life Foundation and Radcliffe School, Malaparambu, Kozhikode.
Their excitement was also flying with the colorful kites. The vibrant young ones turned in group and flew kites to more heights. Enjoying the beauty of evening sky at the beach side they were moved with the sea-breeze and wings of kites, by putting the thread of confidence in their hands. This group activity stood apart from the routine summer programs.
Young and old alike assembled there to watch the tiny ones enthusiasm. Teachers and parents supported them during tough times.
Big and small, many kites were flown in the sky.
“Children are engaged in group activities that are educative also. They are learning from the Nature. Public awareness program to protect our environment is also part of our summer camp. Students took part in Calicut beach clean-up program at Lions Park in the morning. Among all these, kite flying is totally enjoyable”-says Smt. Susheela, the Principal of Radcliffe School.
Octopus, eagle and box, the larger items, made by members of the Kite Life Foundation were also flown during the show.
“Kites have long history to tell. These are 3000 year old, says Rajesh Nair, the President, Kerala Kites Club.
“It took three hours for making kids equipped with the idea of kite-making. After the class they made kites themselves in the workshop. They decorated their kites with paintings and carved some messages to protect our Mother Earth.
Kite- flying has many positive elements in life. It helps to reduce mental strain. It also helps to energize eye- sights and concentration power. It is an exercise for maintaining sustainable energy”-says Rajesh.
Another parent, a gulf returnee, Shaji says his son Devikh is so happy to participate in this activity; otherwise he would simply sleep in the evenings.
“In Dubai we had outings with him. But, here it is really fantastic”-says Shaji.
“Kite-flying helps kids to come out of their homely shelf and reduce the addiction to Television. It is also interesting and healthy.”-opines Bobby Alex, another parent at the show.
