To me, the city is C’Alley-cut because right from the time I began my schooling I used to trek through alleys to reach my School. The picture is more or less the same even now as there are no good roads in this city after a span of forty years. What we see as development is commercial complexes coming up here and there, sealing the road boundaries with their foundations. And now a days it has turned out to be FLATS or real estate in real terms.
The common misunderstanding is that uprise in shopping complexes is the hallmark of development whereas it is only expansion – of the marketplace. There is sluggishness on the part of everyone or else we would not have lost two roads in the name of beautification of Mananchira – the result being circumventing Mananchira unnecessarily and choking the traffic whenever there is an agitation in front of RDOffice.
Parking of vehicles is nightmare such that most prefer not to bring four wheelers to the city at prime times. Encroachment in all forms has become the style of the day. The foot-paths on busy streets(if any)are so wonderful that you cannot walk without rubbing shoulders of an opposite passer-by. And you can see traders blissfully blocking the pedestrians’s share by keeping articles for display or parking their vahicles right on the foot path. There ought to be a sincere and joint effort to solve the traffic and such other problems.
