The government is as usual behaving in a cold manner after all these achievements. The case of Lekha is the best example of this arrogant behavior. Lekha won her Boxing Gold (80kg) hands down with in 30 seconds.
Her Assam opponent didn’t even get time to gear up before she was knocked down flat. The strategy to attack right from the first second, worked.
K.C. Lekha is also the national champion. She was one among the four who proved themselves at the World Championship held at Delhi. When R.L. Geni of Mizoram scaled the same heights as Lekha, the chief Minister of Mizoram himself called her to congratulate on the achievement and she was also promoted to the post of SP of police from the post of ASP.
But Lekha is still stagnating at the Assistant Grade Post in the Secretariat. Lekha as many other Malayali Athletes had to go through all types of suffering like poverty, lack of support etc to achieve what she is now. It was sheer will power that brought her back to rings from the grave injury she suffered which most people predicted would strangle her career.
Lekha has every right to be treated in a more respectable manner, Government and the sports associations must wake up before the public do so.
