Close to the midnight on 30th Jan 2006 , I have become a proud father, blessed with twins – a boy and a girl.
Rescheduling my Dubai – Calicut ticket, I have begun my journey home early. At the office, whoever heard the news congratulated me and I felt relieved of the fact that after long years of painful wait, I am finally blessed with children.
At Lulu centre shopping mall in Dubai, a friend helped me pick up some infants dress material – unchartered territory to me. I bought some Gold for use at the function on 28th day after child birth followed in our custom. Flight was always a big scare for me. Due to a deviated and perforated nasal septum, I kept having terrible problems with my breathing which heightened during the flight. however when you land in your home town, all discomfort of travel disappear. You are at the height of happiness.
Engaging a pre-paid taxi, I went straight to the hospital in Calicut. Baby Memorial hospital has changed a lot. It was hardly busy last time I visited this sleepy hospital. Today, Baby memorial hospital is one of the busiest and ultra modern hospitals. Manipal Kasthubha, though much larger in size, pales in comparison to the crowd in Baby. These days, it is literally teeming with people. I have been always skeptical about the main stream medicine. What more can you do when you have exhausted the few alternative medicine options? Anyway, Baby Memorial seem to be in good business.
Newborns were in the intensive care unit (Neonatal ICU) due to premature birth. At four in the evening, when all were allowed to see, I saw them from outside a glass window for the first time. I could hardly discern anything but their little faces. I choose to wait patiently. Aware that they were going to grow up to become fine children.
