Indian President Abdul Kalam dissolved parliament, paving the way for early polls in the world’s largest democracy six months ahead of schedule.
I am proud to be an Indian, a citizenship giving me so much freedom than that of so called big nations of modern world. A nationality that give me the privileges to float my own organization or a political party by next morning when I wake up and get it registered within next eight working hours! Think about it, if you haven’t tried yet.
Thanks to Indian constitution to provide me with all that freedom that I am enjoying now.
Few of us might be wondering about Indian politics since the independence and how the elected leaders govern our beloved India. Our electoral system is also another miracle which organize the process of selecting an elected body to decide the matters of more than a billion people!!
Past decade we have witnessed several governments formed of different political alliances and later led us back to the polling booths almost once in every year.
Current Indian parliament which was officially formed on 13th October 1999, is now dissolved on 6th February 2003 and new elections proposed six months ahead of schedule.
For whom ??
No political parties have expressed serious objection in it and they all are already in somewhat a festival mood! That festival at a cost of several billion rupees which may end up in another series of political drama and bargaining(yes; a gambling in terms of money and power).
On what reasons, the elections are announced six months ahead of schedule? Do we voters demand it?
Don’t we go to polling stations during peak summer or those heavy monsoon days? Remember, the same monsoon rainfall is the backbone of Indian economy. That monsoon, not under the control of any of us, greenish our beautiful land every year to produce food stock that will feed our one billion+ people.
Look at another way, if the government was in crisis like the previous ones, during summer or monsoon, wouldn’t they recommend re-elections? Or do they postpone it until the weather becomes clear?
So, for what/whom the present parliament is dissolved 6 to 8 months ahead of schedule?
…….…. for the well being of those who have the fundamental right in electing their leaders, or for those who are elected, or for those who are going to be elected?!
