Looking at Kerala from far, it is interesting and at the same time shocking. We should be ashamed of our GOD’S OWN COUNTRY’s present condition.
From roads to bridges, there is no safety in travel. There is no proper maintenance of surroundings and the state lacks efficient and scientific waste management. What we experience while landing at our hometown is fresh and familiar air that we are all used to. This natural breeze and fresh air give us a sort of nostalgia but it all ends there. Movement of life thereafter, in our Gods Own Country these days is fraught with numerous problems. The next step is on-road travel, very tiresome and unsafe. Most of the area filled with gutters. Speeding vehicles rarely follow traffic rules and that increases road accidents.
If you travel in private buses, you may not get enough time to get in and get down. Packed buses race for each other; their aim is more collection. They either forget or deliberately ignore traveler’s safety. Come to holidays… |

People are trained to celebrate normal holidays and party – created hartals alike. Once in a week or month, you are sure to get a hartal. This may differ from 12 hours to 48 hours. One party man can kill the other brutally….
The public should suffer everything. They should cancel travel…they should cancel attending tests….they should avoid every personal matter and stay inside their home. Normal lives badly affected by this sort of political stunts. No social thinkers or independent activists come forward against this unwanted social disturbance. It has become a way of life in God’s Own Country. Without those disruptions, people feel something is lacking.
Drinking for dignity…
The young generation ride behind alcoholic drinks and other intoxications. Celebration may vary from marriages and birth day party but the common and unavoidable element is drink. If somebody stands aloof from drinking parties, he would be isolated.
Politics for personal benefits…
Politics or power misused widely. Certain leaders or some leaders face trial on encroachment of public property. Ministers speak one thing and act another.
Work culture…
Here in the Gulf we have a certain work culture. Back home we work differently. Many are seen here working hard even under scorching sun. Back home, politics have ruined work culture. That is why many foreign firms think twice before investing in Kerala. Nobody can challenge trade unions for their support to workers.
Superficial developments:
One can’t notice a deep rooted development back in Kerala. Most of the developments have superficial effect. The standard of living among people has increased but there are many underdeveloped areas even now, especially in tribal lands and forest area. People go behind fast food items and they deliberately ignore natural country flavors with medicinal quality.
Fever stricken Country…
With the expert central team and local minister arguing over Chickun Gunea or not that kills people, little has been done with a long term view to reassure and help the bewildered public. Can Kerala continue to boast of its universally acclaimed healthcare system? But diseases to continue to conquer human bodies all over the state varying from Chickun Gunea to Rat Fever.
Dream…
Can we dream a good Kerala without political stunt and sustainable development in near future?
