Leaving for Calcutta; fighting for will power
Hoping for something; same time trying not to hope…
I was on a trip home starting 18th Dec and ending 18th Jan. I had a fervent feeling for visiting Calcutta to just see how he is doing. However I was not sure whether to take mother along with me and also whether I could make the trip at all because the travel bookings could be difficult in such a short notice when I also had other things to do.
I also didn’t know why I was going in the first place. Neither I had the slightest hope that he would jump and come back home with me nor I was hopeful for a successful persuasion after I had known how steadfast he has been. Though, may be subconsciously, I was still hoping.
Finally on the 4th of Jan 2007 at 5 AM, I left home for Calcutta by a flight leaving first for Chennai from Calicut. Same day I boarded an evening Air Deccan flight from Chennai to Calcutta. Air Deccan flight had been delayed by three hours. Air Deccan is known for delays and also known as a low cost airliner with no food served in flight. Though the flight was delayed, it was full meaning that a lot of people are indeed making use of these low cost flights.
At around 9.30, that night, I finally landed at the Calcutta airport. At the airport, I was received by a relative who became my valuable and robust support at Calcutta. The climate was cold though I didn’t feel the chill highly. We boarded a bus and headed for the relatives home close to the airport.
I had a sleepless night, though the family home where I was put up, was treating me with great respect and care.
