Public sector enterprises are another area of concern for the government. The Budget has allocated a plumb 300 crores for the development of Public sector enterprises.
The government is feeling bit more confident here compared to the other sectors because the number of profit making enterprises has increased from 12 to 22 which the LDF government believes is due to the decisions they have taken.
Some major developments such as TELK of ‘Angamally’ signing an agreement with a national thermal power corporation, the project to convert the Autocast into an Railway aided undertaking, the Titanium sponge project at K.M.M.L and the HITECH getting into an agreement with the defense ministry are expected to rewrite the history of the Kerala public sector enterprises.
Another major project in the Budget for the Public sector enterprises is project to bring down the loss of the KSRTC by redesigning and increasing the efficiency of the department. But KSRTC was always a problem for all governments; now we will have to wait to see what the new projects will turn out in the end.
