An intangible component of life that money can’t buy… learning to appreciate time … to be in harmony with oneself …on a positive note…
A lot has been talked on “Time” since ancient age. There are many definitions and theories on time. Similarly, all the moments of life in this universe are dependent on the Wheels of time. Time –Space concept is something more deep and dealt by all spiritual paths.
But, why do I think and write on time now is something different. Nothing related with any of the scientific revelations.
I am transferred to a new department in my office where we have a wonderful clock, left by our former Japanese boss. Besides the hourly ticks to inform time, it presents a musical symphony.
This wall clock looks simple and elegant. But its classical nature is like an inbuilt treasure. There are two ear panels to this piece. During the hourly tick, a two member musical team slowly pops out, opening the shutters of the clock from both sides. To me, they resemble the characters in a puppet show.
Music starts with an opening melody and continues until the ‘performers’ fully appears on the scene and get ready for musical beat. Then with a light and rhythmic sound one can enjoy a moment’s orchestra with an unknown attraction. There is a beautiful blend of melody, silence and perfect timing – a classical creation from Japan. Drums, violin and xylophone are symbolically carried by the puppets. After the hourly fete they move back into the shelter. Music feels like rain drops falling from the tree leaves immediately after the showers. It washes me with a welcome note into the next moment of life…
“What element attracted me most?” It is better to say one and all feature of this wonderful creation. I am so fascinated by this equipment that I gaze at it with childish yonder, whenever it chimes.
Time, it is an intangible companion right from our birth to our graves and maybe even beyond. However, for the first time in my life, that too after years of using innumerable watches, alarms, timepieces and wall clocks; I have started to appreciate time NOW!!!
Passing of hours have become more interesting than ever. There are many significant elements for this sound. The ticked hours signifies the past of our time. Those hours have missed for ever from our life’s circle. The missing time can’t be replaced in future. It is the one of the few things in this world that money can’t buy. It is a time conscious activity to tell on the clock.
Expatriates in general dream time to fly fast. To them Fridays are the most beautiful days. They count from one Friday to another. How Fridays are coming soon! Simultaneously majority lose great moments of life with their near and dear ones who are far beyond the oceans.
In the modern world, the biggest challenge lies in how best we can utilize time more creatively. Time management has become the core training in business groups and even amidst students, to help them focus on effective utilization.
Here comes the concept of quality time, also. It is not how much time we spent on an activity, but how best we spent it, is what that counts. This ranges from productive man-hours at work to the split-second bliss (sachitananda) during meditation to the memorable phases with friends and family to the enjoyable moments spent in pursuing our passion…
Generally, the tick of any clock enters in my mind with a disturbing negativity of time loss. But the ticks of this harmonious melody, creates in me a harmonious togetherness with time. Just like the puppet characters in the clock, I feel we are also dolls of time in the movie of life, scripted and directed by God Almighty. If these dolls have a pre activated time to perform their duties in each hour, ours is different since we use sense and brain to make-over time.
Time and tide waits no man…
Time is money…
There are many watchwords to signify the value of moments.
This adage doesn’t stand alone for business. Many consider money making as the prime contribution of time. Their very thought process is tuned to the conversion ratios of money and penny.
In today’s fast paced world, people’s race with time is a daily sight. Still they may blame “timelessness”.
For others, time represents life. They consider many life moments and unique blessings granted by time, when one plans and utilize it properly. Each moment are treasured in ones life. Life can be rhythmic like the musical melody in this clock, if we take efforts to make it meaningful and tuneful. We have to learn to move with time in a smooth and comfortable manner. We should never be frustrated or exhausted.
For those who believe in destiny and luck, time refers to the guides and reminders that help us to act according to situations. Thus whether conservative or modern, none can simply blame time for one’s own pitfalls and failures.
There is no inequality in the world of time. Time zones are different but time is equal to all. Indian Prime Minister and a farmer in America get as equal as 24 hours in a day. There are many innovative ways to run things round. With all available technology, the globe has become a well connected village in a nutshell.
In any international or local events, we watch the efforts and thrust on value of perfect timing and planning of popular players to win the match. A moment’s loss has been always a loss; whether it is a local or a global game; sometimes for a person and at others for a nation as a whole.
The thrust is to live in the present peacefully and positively without bothering much on future. To quote Swami Chinmayananda:
“Trust no future however pleasant
Let the dead past, bury it dead
Live, live in the living present
Heart within and God O’er head…”
Now time is 19 hrs in the evening .The lovely machine starts its musings. This is the last bell of my usual office hours and the first one to embrace my personal thoughts and life. I have to make a move now. Otherwise I may miss the bus. After all, Time is precious!
