Onchiyam again in news
Opposition leader, VS Achuthanandan said TP Chandrasekharan was a brave communist.
TP Chandrasekharan, the leader of Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP), is the last martyr of Onchiyam, the red fortress in the northern part of Kozhikode district. TP, as his friends and well- wishers call, was stabbed to death by unidentified gangsters on Friday night. Critically wounded leader was rushed to a hospital at Vatakara and later to Kozhikode Medical College, but efforts could not save his life.
According to the post mortem report he had suffered more than 50 deep injuries on his head and face. His skull was broken and brain pulled out in the group attack by the assailants with iron rods and swords.
The atrocious attack occurred around 10.30 pm. Videos of the leader as he breathed his last was telecast for a day in all Malayalam channels. Political leaders have expressed their multitude of opinion about the bloodless crime, paving way for unwanted controversies.
According to the police, there were seven members in the criminal gang. They came to the spot; Vallikkad in a car. The gang threw country bombs to terrify local people.
An abandoned Innova car was identified at a remote place, near Chokli in Kannur district. Sources quoting the owner said it was hired to a team a month ago. The police questioned the owner of the car, his aides and collected some important information about the culprits.
Police said that they are also following up the last calls on TP’s mobile and all phone calls between Vallikkad and Kannur prison, to trace roots of the plot.
Police suspect a well-planned conspiracy behind the murder executed in a professional style by “quotation killers” {contract criminals}. The investigation team led by SP Anoop Kuruvila John and Vincent M Paul has widened its enquiry to Karnataka with a clue that culprits might have fled, reports say.
Different sources suspect a possible link of Communist Party of India (Marxist) with the brutal killing. But the confirmed report will be available only after the arrest and questioning of the absconding assailants. Police have strict direction from the department, not to open up vital clues in public, during initial stage of the probe.
Chief Minister Oomen Chandy and KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala blamed the CPI (M) as behind the political murder. At the same time, CPI (M) state Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan defended the party by saying they had no role in the killing. CPI (M) politbureau meeting held in Delhi also reiterated the party stand and analyzed the post murder political scene in Kerala.
Chandrasekharan’s life was under threat since he formed Revolutionary Marxist Party, said police. The fifty two year old mass leader, has thousands of followers in Onchiyam and neighboring panchayaths like Eramala and Azhiyoor; most of them dissidents of the CPM.
He contested in the last parliament election from Vatakara and won around 22,000 votes. This helped Congress to win the seat from the CPM after many decades’ monopoly. His party proved its strength in the local body elections and RMP won Onchiyam panchayath reign. It was a rude shock to the CPM.
Apart from concentrating on local politics, Chandrasekharan had a dream to organize rebel left ideologists under one umbrella. Recently he had criticized CPI (M) policy with sharp words in his party’s publication. He alleged CPI (M) was turning to be a fascist organization in Onchiyam.
Meanwhile, leader of the opposition VS Achuthanandan opined the slain TP Chandrasekhar was a brave Communist.
Chief Minister Oomen Chandy, ministers; Aryadan Muhammad, K.M Mani, P.K Kunhalikkutty, MPs M.K Ragahavan, E.T Muhammad Basheer KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala, opposition leader VS Achuthanandan were among the hundreds of people who paid homage to the leader at the Kozhikode town hall.
The location is tense since the untoward incident and District collector has declared a week’s order of prohibition in Onchiyam and adjoining panchayats.
The police have not yet revealed any significant progress on the investigation as of now.
Meanwhile CPI (M) district secretary TP Ramakrishnan‘s China tour during the probe has made another controversy and it is a hot debate in the media, which keep the incident live.
