Hacking

In the old age of the Internet, a hacker was presumed to be an expert in computers. Today hacking means malicious attack of a computer system.
What is Hacking?

Hacking is fundamentally intruding into a system using malicious tools. This could be virus, worm, a trojan horse, a vulnerability scanner, and even social engineering. Once a system has been compromised through hacking, the person who hack could do any of the following.

  • Might obtain complete or partial control of that system.
  • He may be able to corrupt, or elicit data through hacking.

If it is an e-commerce website that is compromised through hacking, it could be possible to elicit credit card information from a database. This is is not a very difficult process to follow for an individual who is bent on doing this.

Are you at risk?

On the Internet, connected systems (Including your own PC is being continuously scanned) to find systems that can be hacked or affected by malicious tools. Hence hacking affects all and everyone must install the defense systems.

How do you defend?

If you install a firewall like Mcafee Firewall which can show an event log of what is going on in your PC while you are connected to the Internet, you can find that many attempts of hacking into your PC is always taking place. Details of how it is actually done is bit more technical and can involve detailing the workings of TCP/IP protocol which is the at the core of the global Internet. However to view hacking events, firewalls like Mcafee provide easy tools.
