National Integration Camp :
Malappuram: Dec 19, The Union Minister of State for Defence and Parliamentary Affairs, O Rajagopal, will inaugurate the ‘All India national Integration Camp’ organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Nehru Yuva Kendra at the Architecture Block Auditorium at the MES Engineering College, Kuttippuram here from December 20 to 26.
E T Muhammed Basheer, MLA will preside over the inaugural function and the NYKS director general, V Muraleedharan will deliver the keynote address on the occasion. A cultural pageantry will be held at the Government Technical High School grounds.
Panel to submit report on August 23
MALAPPURAM: The three-member syndicate enquiry commission, probing the final-year BA Afzal-Ul-Ulema mark donation scandal, will submit its report to Calicut University vice-chancellor Dr Syed Iqbal Hasnain on August 23. The university syndicate meeting, scheduled to be held on the same day, is likely to contemplate the matter. The mark donation scandal in the Afzal-Ul-Ulema examination had assumed a new dimension with the confession by the examination board chairman and teacher at the Walavannur Anzar Arabic College, Prof M Moideen Kutty, before the enquiry commission. The commission will also examine the principal of the Pulikkal Madeenathul Ulloom Arabic College in its next sitting scheduled on August 21.
Vivahasangamam on Oct 26
KOZHIKODE: Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC), an organization, which comes under Mahayeel, Saudi Arabia, is conducting Vivahasangamam on October 26 at Kondotty.
Ten girls from poor families will be married off on this day. KMCC general secretary Aboobacker Chelembra, treasurer K K Koya at a press meet said ten sovereigns each would be given to the girls, two sovereigns each to men, mahar and wedding dress would be given to them. The function will begin with Vanithasangamam on October 26. Muslim League state general secretary Korambayil Ahamed Haji will distribute the dress to the bride and the groom. Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty will give away the mahar and Sayyed Hyderali Shihab Thangal will lead the nikah.
Chembai Sangeetholsavom from Dec 1
THRISSUR: The Guruvayur Devaswom has decided to organise this year’s Chembai Sangeetholsavom from December 1 to December 15.
A Devaswom release said here that a special concert by renowned musicians will also be held during the last 10 days of the festival. Those who desire to participate in the festival will have to submit applications in prescribed forms, which will be available free of cost at the Guruvayur Devaswom office during working hours from September 27 to October 16. No Photostat copies of applications will be entertained. The applicants should be above eight years of age and should have learned Carnatic music for a continuous period of 3 years.
Joint council to boycott Teachers’ Day fete
MALAPPURAM: The Joint Council of various teachers’ organisations has decided to boycott the state level Teachers’ Day celebrations, scheduled to be held on September 5 at Malappuram. A meeting of the Joint Council held yesterday said that they would not cooperate in any extra curricular activities, organised by the State Education Department, until the government agreed to their demands which included payment of salary to the teachers in the closed down uneconomical schools and to withdraw from moves to upgrade the Un-aided schools in the state.

The duly filled applications will be accepted till August 31.MA subjects include History, Philosophy, Psychology, Development Economics, Hindi, Malayalam, Sanskrit, English, Comparative Literature, West Asian Studies, Folklore and Music. The applications for Automobile Engineering and Air-conditioning and Refrigeration courses being conducted.
Malabar Tourism Mela from Aug 9
KOZHIKODE: Union Civil Aviation Minister Shanavas Hussain will inaugurate the Malabar Tourism Mela, the first one of its kind in the area, at a function to be held at Kadavu Resort, Ramanattukara, on August 9. State Tourism Minister Prof K V Thomas will preside. Tourism ministers from four southern States, department officials, prominent tourism operators across the country, hotel owners and travel agents will take part. Calicut Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Malabar Tourism Board is jointly hosting the festival.
Stir against film ban
MALAPPURAM: A State-wide mass agitation by various cultural organisations, against the district administration’s recent decision to prohibit the screening of Anand Patwardhan’s documentary film Ram Ke Nam in the district, would be launched on July 4 at a function to be held in front of the District Collectorate, here.
Writers, leading film personalities, cartoonists and cultural activists from across the State would assemble in front of the District Collectorate to deplore the decision of the authorities, office bearers of the District Samskarika Vedi said at a press conference on Tuesday. State vice-president of Purogamana Kala Samskarika Vedi, V P Vasudevan, said the district administration was infringing on the democratic rights of the people by functioning as subservient to the Hindu communal forces.
