The Indian Institute of Management –Kozhikode is all set to introduce a series of women empowering programs. As part of it, a leadership workshop will be conducted for the best 100 teachers (both secondary and higher secondary) of the country.
In collaboration with Malabar Gold Group, this project offers scholarships to participants -says the IIM-K press release.
“Women make better managers. Women in our country have learnt to be more competent in a diverse set of skills and attitudes – things that are required of managers of this country. We acknowledge skills such as networking, social intelligence, empathy and environmental sensitivity that women bring to the repertoire of management skill sets” said IIM-K Director Prof. Debashis Chatterjee.
The institute has achieved a national record with 36%women for the 2013 batch. In the first PGP batch at IIMK (Class of 1999), the number of women was only 1 in a total batch strength of 42.
‘Giving due importance to female students has become a trend in the Institute since past two years. We had the maximum number of students among the IIMs. In the summer placements, girls of the last batch were better placed than the boys. Girls had brought in greater diversity both in the learning environment as well as their academic and social profiles. Although IIMK has no quota or reservation for women, the institute is able to achieve gender diversity by adopting a suitable admission policy and criteria’ – says the release.
