Passengers towards northern side had a tough time on Monday evening when majority of the private buses cancelled trips between Kozhikode and Kannur. Regular travelers including women and students were the most suffered in the peak time, when the buses turned off from service for long time.
A hartal had been called on at Payyoli due to a political clash, in which a BJP activist was attacked and later succumbed to injuries at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. Bus operators pointed out it as a reason for trip cancellation, even if the hartal had not affected long route bus services.
The commuters surprised to see the empty parking centre of Kannur, Vatakara buses at the Mofussil bus stand. ‘Even the hartal had not affected the service of long haul bus routes, most of the private operators declared a self-made off.’-said a Kannur based passenger.
‘Few KSRTC town to town buses became the only relief .It was difficult to accommodate huge number of passengers at the peak time.’ said a regular passenger to Koyilandy.
Bus-strike without prior notice is illegal as per the state law; still there are many such instances that pour trouble to passengers.
