Though blessed with a number of irrigation projects, there is no hydro – electric project in Palakkad district. The energy required for the district is transmitted from other power generating projects of Kerala. The Silent Valley Hydro-electric Project, envisaged for construction across Kunthipuzha, did not meterialise for ecological reasons. However, an alternative project to produce power, utilizing the Silent Valley waters at Kunthipuzha, is under consideration.
