The musical programme during the opening ceremony of Malabar Shopping Festival started with K.S. Chitra singing “kalabamtharam…” one of her hits of the year from the film ‘vadukumnathan’ at the corporation stadium.
There is something about her voice that sweeps you off your feet when ever you hear it. Though we expected fast numbers to open a festival of such a stature and scale, we had no complains because anything that chitra sings has her special touch that touches our heart.
Chitra sung just four full songs but it was such a pleasure especially when she rendered “paatariyen padippariyen” one of the biggest hits ever. For which she won her first national award in 1986. Sharing the stage with her were Srinivas, Ganga, Afsal, George Peter, Nithya, Sunitha and Arun. The highpoint of the show was when Chitra, Srinivas, Afzal and Ganga together sang some melodies. It opened on the right note with “Uyriye…” (Bombay) and many more like that.
