‘Green Kerala Express’, a reality show by the Kerala Suchitva Mission received National Water Award. Union Minister for Urban Development, Kamal Nath conferred the award at a function held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.
R K Singh, Secretary, Local Self Government Department, and Dr George Chackacherry, Executive Director, Suchitwa Mission received the awards.
Green Kerala Express had been selected for the award, instituted by the Ministry of Urban Development Government of India; under the category of Communication Strategy and Awareness Creation.
Green Kerala Express – a special one among Indian Television reality shows was aimed to find the best panchayath in the State of Kerala. Under the initiative of the Ministry of Local Self Government and Suchitwa Mission, the show was visualized by Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT) and was telecast by Doordarshan Kendra, Thiruvananthapuram. The show which prolonged over 103 episodes was telecast during 2010. The best performed panchayat got a cash prize of Rs. one crore. A total of Rs. 3 crore was shared as prize money among four winning panchayats and municipalities. About 40 experts in various sectors were designated as the jury.
