Theatre artists of yesteryears were honored at the International Theatre Festival of Kerala 2012 at the Tagore Centenary Hall in Kozhikode. Eminent theatre artist Vikraman Nair was the chief guest. Shankar Venkateshwaran’s Water Station will be staged on 8th February; the final day of the festival.
Twelve artists from different theatre troupe took part in the event; organized by the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy as part of the International Theatre Festival.
Babu Parassery presided over the function.
Eminent theatre artist Vikraman Nair gave away the mementos and certificates to the artists at Mulla Veettil Abdu Rahiman Memorial open stage.
Nostalgic moments marked the event with the senior artists who belonged to a time when technology was modest and challenge was arrogant. Theatre gurus spoke emotionally about the good old days they had dedicated to their lives to amateur and professional dramas.
‘In the light of lanterns, the olden day artists performed from venues to venues, even carrying the stage equipments on their shoulders’-one of the artists recollected the golden days of theatre.
K.T.C Abdulla, Nellikode Bhasi, Sudhakaran, Damu Kanjilassery, K.Balan Vatakara, N.Sethu Madhavan, Begum Rabia M.K,C.V.Dev, V.K.J.Metro, V.K.Maladath, A.P.Ummer, R.Gopinath were the honored artists on the third day of the festival.
T.V.Balan welcomed the gathering and noted theatre artist Joy Mathew expressed vote of thanks.
After Life of Birds, an English play by a Bangalore based troupe Indian Ensemble, directed by Abhishek Majumdar was performed at the main venue (K.T Muhammad Nagar, Tagore Hall).
A midsummer’s Night’s Dream, a Hindi play by Mizoram Art and Cultural department
The festival began on 3rd February with by Manganiar Folk Music Concert; Rajasthan followed by Molgapodi, Tamil play; The Interview (English), Malavikagnimithram on 4th, 5th and 6th February respectively.
Water Station, a non-verbal play by the renowned theatre artist Shankar Venkateswaran will be the main attraction on 8th February, the final day of the festival.
